Urgent Call for the evacuation of the wounded and civilians in the Kurdish town of Sri Kani

(Resulayn)

On 9 October 2019, Turkish Army and Turkish-backed Arab militias launched an incursion into Kurdish-held northeastern Syria. This incursion is clearly against the international law, which was opposed by the whole world except for a few countries.

Today is the 9 th  day of the incursion. Many civilians, including children and women, have already been killed due to Turkish air strikes and heavy weapons that also target residential areas, such as the town of Sri Kani.  There are many wounded people trapped in the town center. According to the Heyva Sor a Kurd (Kurdish Red Crescent), the intervention of the first aid teams to the wounded was prevented by Turkish soldiers. Heyva Sor has stated that thousands of civilians were in danger, and called upon the international community to open an emergency corridor for the evacuation of the wounded. Today local sources stated that the Turkish army also bombed the Sri Kane hospital and city center with heavy weapons, howitzers and artillery fire. The Health Department of Sri Kani issued an emergency call to the international community, stating that their medical teams are unable to evacuate the civilians from the town center.

We hereby call upon the international community, especially international health organizations, such as World Health Organization and Doctors without Borders, to take immediate action and help to evacuate the civilians and the wounded in the town center of the Sri Kani.
